Maps & Walking Tour

CityScape is working with the Downtown Business Association to create a map of Historic Downtown Cookeville, featuring our fine shops and restaurants. The map will be available at any of our downtown merchants.

We'd love for you to stop in Downtown Cookeville and take a look around.

You may wish to begin your tour of Cookeville at the Putnam County Courthouse, found in the center of the square created by the intersections of Broad and Spring with Washington and Jefferson. The current courthouse was designed in 1900 by James Yeaman in the Richardson Romanesque style. The building was remodeled in 1962-63 and consequently lost its distinctive clocktower.

The Arcade on Jefferson, marked with a blue and white striped awning, is on the National Register of Historic Places, and has stained glass ceiling. The enclosed mall was built in 1913 by Joe Scott and Bill Smoot, and designed by Gillian Maxwell.

The Downtown Post Office, on Broad Street, was built in 1916 in the Italianate style.

The Depot is also on the National Register and was built in 1909 by the Tennessee Central Railroad. The building features a Pagoda-style roof and now houses a museum.

The Cream City Sign, found on West Broad, has lit up the Cookeville night sky since 1950.
